Circuit Courts
Circuit Courts in Mississippi hear felony criminal prosecutions and civil lawsuits. The state has 22 Circuit Court districts, and Pontotoc County is in District 1. All Circuit Court judges in the state are selected in non-partisan elections for four-year terms.
As of May 16th, 2022 electronic filing through the Mississippi Electronic Courts (MEC) system has been implemented for both civil and criminal cases in Pontotoc County Circuit and County Courts. All filing, signing, verification, and service of pleadings and papers shall be made in accordance with the Administrative Procedures set forth by MEC. To assist in the judicial process, the circuit clerk serves as the clerk of the Circuit Court. The office receives and files lawsuits, indictments, motions and other related papers in all civil and criminal cases filed. The clerk also issues subpoenas and keeps a record of all judgments and executions.
